What draws me about the style is how it does not strive to replicate reality, but to render just the tinge of essence of the subject -- an "impression," so to speak, from the mind to the canvas. That's why the movement is itself a revolution: It definitely broke new ground in painting, with Claude Monet's Sunrise launching an entire armada of artists eager to experiment and find solace in something beyond Realism.
